Consultant and Researcher in Data Acceleration
Gustavo Magalhães is a researcher and consultant in data acceleration.
His specialization in open data has taken him around the world to provide expert advice to governments in countries such as Mozambique, Portugal, Ghana, and the state of Palestine. As a researcher, he has also worked in various projects that lie at the intersection of technology and society, at institutions including the University of Texas at Austin, World Bank Group, Code for America, New York University’s GovLab, and the Center for Open Data Enterprise.
He coleads EMERGENCE Hackathon, an international event that brings together scientists, techies, artists, and others to collaboratively create digital media projects that communicate complex concepts in scientific research.
Magalhães holds a master’s degree in Physics from Imperial College of London, and a doctoral degree in Digital Media from the University of Porto, as part of the University of Texas at Austin Portugal program.
