This panel will explore the impact of new technologies, like AI and digitalization, on agriculture, with a particular emphasis on smallholder farmers and peasant communities. Moderator Samuel Oslund of the 11th Hour Project will be joined by Ugandan legal scholar and researcher, Barbara Ntambirweki, technologist Rikin Gandhi, and author and civil society researcher Jim Thomas.

In this conversation, we will be interrogating the relationship between historic technological disruption and the industrialization of agriculture, and how these patterns might inform our thinking on the potential risks and benefits of emerging innovations. Key themes include data sovereignty, AI governance, intellectual property, and traditional ecological knowledge systems (TEK).
