The question of AI regulation is front and center for policy makers, executives, and nonprofit leaders alike. Should policy prioritize innovation or safety? How are projected determinations likely to impact the way we do business?
Marietje Schaake, former member of Dutch parliament and member of European Parliament and International Director of Policy at Stanford’s Cyber Policy Center, was a leading architect of Europe’s digital and tech policies. She will join Nate Persily, Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and Founding Co-Director of the Stanford Cyber Policy Center and its program on Democracy and the Internet, to discuss what might be learned from the European tech governance, what policy changes are likely under the Trump administration and how these decisions might trickle down to impact us all in our work. The discussion will also explore whether the more flexible AI strategies of the United States and the greater regulatory protections of Europe can be reconciled to achieve global AI governance standards, examining the implications of these approaches for ethical AI development, innovation, and international collaboration.
